Trump Defends US-Iran MoU, Says Iran ‘Finished’ as Vance Delays Key Trip

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has launched a fierce defense of the recently announced US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), rejecting criticism from political opponents and insisting the agreement represents Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

Speaking to reporters, Trump argued that years of military pressure, economic sanctions, and recent conflict forced Tehran back to the negotiating table. He claimed Iran’s military and strategic position had been severely weakened, declaring that “Iran is finished” as a regional threat if the agreement is fully implemented.

The president’s comments come as debate intensifies in Washington and among US allies over whether the deal truly limits Iran’s nuclear ambitions or grants Tehran valuable concessions in exchange for a ceasefire and the reopening of key shipping routes in the Gulf.

However, fresh uncertainty emerged after Vice President JD Vance delayed a planned diplomatic trip that had been expected to support the next phase of negotiations. The postponement has fueled speculation that disagreements remain behind the scenes despite public claims of progress.

Supporters of the agreement argue the MoU has reduced the risk of a wider Middle East war and helped stabilize global energy markets after weeks of tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. Critics, meanwhile, say key questions about verification, enforcement, and Iran’s future nuclear activities remain unanswered.

The White House insists negotiations are continuing and that the agreement remains on track, but Vance’s delayed trip has raised fresh doubts about how quickly a final framework can be secured.
