Hundreds of fans waving national flags gathered at Vasil Levski Airport to welcome Dara home after her historic victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

The 27-year-old singer, whose real name is Darina Yotova, arrived in Sofia carrying the Eurovision trophy after winning the competition with her upbeat party anthem “Bangaranga,” securing Bulgaria’s first-ever Eurovision title.

Historic Win for Bulgaria

Dara defeated 24 finalists during Saturday’s grand final in Vienna, with her energetic performance, strong vocals, and synchronized choreography earning support from both international juries and public voters.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Dara described the victory as:

“The beginning of my future international career.”

She also praised Bulgaria’s music industry and artists, saying:

“We have done something great for Bulgarian music.”

The win sparked nationwide celebrations, with major Bulgarian television channels interrupting regular programming to broadcast her arrival live.

Political Leaders Join Celebrations

Several Bulgarian leaders praised the singer’s achievement:

  • Parliamentary Speaker Mihaela Dotsova called the victory “an inspiration for the nation.”
  • President Iliana Yotova described it as “a triumph for Bulgaria.”
  • Prime Minister Rumen Radev called it “a victory with global resonance.”

Meanwhile, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said the Bulgarian capital is prepared to host Eurovision 2027 as the country approaches the 20th anniversary of joining the European Union.

Why the Win Matters

Bulgaria has participated in Eurovision for years but had never previously won the competition. Analysts say Dara’s success could:

  • Boost Bulgaria’s music industry internationally
  • Increase tourism and cultural attention
  • Strengthen investment in local entertainment talent
  • Position Sofia as a future international event destination
