Big decision of Punjab government to remedy fake news
The Punjab government has decided to implement the defamation law across the province to prevent false, fabricated and untrue news.
The said Defamation Act 2024 will be applicable to those false and untrue news spread through print, electronic and social media which defames the identity of any person or organization.
In this regard, the sources say that the law will be applied to remedy the false news that will be spread to spoil the privacy and public position of a person.
According to the sources, the Defamation Ordinance 2002 will be changed after the implementation of this law, the Punjab government presented the Defamation Law 2024 bill in the provincial assembly.
The Defamation Bill 2024 has been sent to the relevant committee of the Assembly, the committee will submit its recommendations on the Defamation Bill 2024 in the next two days.
After the recommendations of the committee, the bill will be presented to the provincial assembly for approval. After the approval of the assembly, the bill will be implemented in the province immediately.
