U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran has already been signed electronically, marking a significant step toward ending months of conflict that disrupted global energy markets and raised fears of a wider Middle East war.

Speaking before the G7 summit in France, Trump said the agreement was digitally signed on Sunday and that a formal signing ceremony is expected later this week in Geneva. Vice President JD Vance is expected to attend the event.

According to U.S. officials, the MoU was signed electronically by Trump, Vance, and Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. The agreement is intended to create a framework for ending the war and restoring navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The White House says the Strait is already beginning to reopen, with shipping traffic expected to increase gradually as security conditions improve. Trump stated that the waterway should be fully open by Friday.

However, several key details remain unresolved. Reuters reports that the full text of the agreement has not yet been released, while U.S. and Iranian officials have offered differing descriptions of what was actually agreed regarding sanctions relief, frozen assets, and future nuclear negotiations.

The deal has also generated criticism in Israel, where officials have expressed concern over some provisions linked to regional security and Lebanon. Analysts say the coming days will determine whether the preliminary agreement can evolve into a durable peace settlement.
