Settlement Failed to End the War: Lively and Baldoni Clash Again in New York Court

What was supposed to be the end of one of Hollywood's ugliest legal battles has turned into a new courtroom showdown.

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni may have settled the main dispute surrounding It Ends With Us, but their legal teams were back before a New York judge this week in a fresh fight over money, damages, and accountability.

The latest hearing focused on whether Baldoni should be required to pay Lively's legal fees and additional penalties after his previously filed defamation and extortion claims were thrown out by the court. Lively's lawyers argue that California law protects people who report harassment from retaliatory lawsuits and that Baldoni's failed countersuit falls into that category.

Baldoni's legal team pushed back aggressively, warning that granting those requests could effectively reopen a case that both sides already agreed to settle. His attorneys argued that turning the dispute into a new battle over damages would create another mini-trial and drag the conflict even further into the future.

The feud began after Lively accused Baldoni of misconduct during the production of It Ends With Us. Baldoni denied the allegations and launched a massive countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and others. Multiple claims from both sides were later dismissed, and the parties eventually reached a settlement shortly before trial.

Now the battle has shifted from accusations to consequences.

Legal experts say the judge's upcoming decision could determine whether parties who defeat high-profile defamation claims can recover substantial legal costs and damages from those who filed them. The ruling may have implications far beyond Hollywood, particularly in future cases involving harassment allegations and retaliatory lawsuits.

For now, one thing is clear: although the settlement ended the headline-grabbing trial, it did not end the war.
