| Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran would not bow to US pressure |
Iran has sharply accused the United States of pursuing a “reckless military adventure” in the Gulf region as tensions continue to rise around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would “never bow to pressure,” criticizing Washington for escalating military actions despite ongoing diplomatic discussions.
Araghchi questioned whether recent US moves were part of a pressure campaign or the result of outside influence pushing President Donald Trump into another regional conflict.
The comments came after both Washington and Tehran accused each other of attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes through which nearly 20% of global oil and LNG supplies pass.
The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed American forces destroyed Iranian drones, missiles, and small attack boats after what it described as an “unprovoked attack” on US naval vessels.
Meanwhile, Iran accused the US of targeting Iranian-linked ships and carrying out air attacks near coastal regions, including areas close to Minab in Hormozgan province.
Iranian officials said one cargo vessel caught fire during the clashes, leaving several sailors injured and triggering emergency rescue operations.
Washington also confirmed it had stopped Iranian-flagged oil tankers attempting to enter Iranian ports, saying US forces used “precision munitions” to disable vessels allegedly violating the ongoing American naval blockade.
Despite the military escalation, Trump insisted the ceasefire arrangement remains active and said negotiations aimed at ending the conflict are still ongoing.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington expects Iran to respond soon to a new US proposal aimed at reducing tensions.
