TEHRAN / WASHINGTON: Iran has delivered a new proposal for peace talks with the United States through Pakistan, as negotiations remain stalled despite an ongoing ceasefire.
According to Iranian state media, the proposal was handed to officials in Islamabad on Thursday. Diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington have seen little progress, with only one round of talks held so far without agreement.
The conflict, which began in late February, has been paused since early April under a ceasefire. However, tensions remain high as both sides continue economic pressure measures.
Iran has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global oil and gas flows, while the United States has enforced restrictions on Iranian ports.
Economic Pressure Mounts
The prolonged standoff has impacted global markets, with oil prices remaining significantly elevated. Economic challenges are also increasing within Iran, where inflation has risen further in recent weeks.
US officials have indicated that the current situation could continue for an extended period, contributing to uncertainty in global energy supply.
Diplomatic Signals Continue
Iranian officials have stated that they remain open to negotiations but will not accept imposed conditions. At the same time, they emphasized that Tehran does not seek a return to active conflict.
In Washington, the situation has also triggered internal debate over legal and political aspects of the ongoing military engagement.

Meanwhile, Western allies including France and United Kingdom are working on initiatives aimed at restoring stability and reopening key shipping routes once conditions allow.
The United States is also exploring additional international cooperation to resume maritime activity in the region.
