CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears has pleaded guilty to reckless driving charges following an incident earlier this year, avoiding a jail sentence.
The 44-year-old singer entered her plea through legal representatives during a hearing at Ventura County Superior Court. She did not appear in person.
According to court records, Spears was arrested in March after being stopped for driving erratically near her home. She faced a misdemeanor charge related to driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs.
The court sentenced her to one day in custody—considered already served at the time of her arrest—along with one year of probation, a mandatory driving-related education program, and a financial penalty.
Officials said the probation will be informal, meaning she will not be required to report regularly to a probation officer.
Following the incident, representatives for Spears confirmed that she had voluntarily sought treatment at a rehabilitation facility.
