A massive chemical disaster has turned a Washington state paper mill into a deadly graveyard after authorities confirmed one person dead and warned nine others remain missing following a catastrophic tank implosion.

Fears are now growing that more bodies could be found as rescue crews continue desperate overnight searches inside the heavily damaged industrial facility.

The disaster erupted at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging mill in Longview, Washington, where a huge chemical tank suddenly ruptured during operations, triggering panic, toxic exposure fears, and a mass casualty emergency.

Officials say workers suffered:

  • severe chemical burns
  • trauma injuries
  • dangerous inhalation exposure

as firefighters, hazmat crews, ambulances, and rescue teams rushed into the unstable industrial site searching for survivors.

Authorities described terrifying scenes around the facility as:

  • chemical haze spread across the area
  • emergency sirens echoed through the plant
  • damaged structures collapsed near the blast zone
  • rescue teams searched through debris and wreckage

The ruptured tank reportedly contained “white liquor,” a highly corrosive chemical mixture used in paper manufacturing that can cause severe burns and dangerous toxic exposure.

Emergency officials warned the situation remains extremely dangerous as investigators continue trying to determine what triggered the deadly industrial failure.

The incident is already raising nationwide concerns over chemical storage safety and industrial plant conditions across the United States.

What Happens Next?

Search and recovery operations are expected to continue through the night as authorities work to locate the missing workers. Officials warn the death toll could rise as emergency crews gain access to more destroyed sections of the facility.
