Blasts Reported Across Iran as US Launches Fresh Wave of Military Strikes

CAIRO/DUBAI — Explosions were reported across parts of Iran on Thursday after the United States launched another wave of military strikes targeting key Iranian military infrastructure, intensifying one of the most dangerous confrontations between Washington and Tehran in years.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American forces carried out the latest strikes at around 2 p.m. ET, saying the operation was designed to "further degrade Iranian military capabilities." Officials did not immediately disclose the full list of targets or assess the damage.
Iranian state media reported blasts in several locations, including around the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, where officials said "American projectiles" struck military-related facilities. Witnesses also reported explosions in southern Iran as air defenses were activated.
The renewed attacks come after days of escalating military exchanges centered on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor. Washington says the campaign is intended to weaken Iran's missile, drone and naval capabilities following attacks on international shipping and US interests in the Gulf.
Iran condemned the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty and warned that it would continue responding to what it called American aggression. Iranian officials also claimed that recent US attacks struck civilian infrastructure, allegations Washington has not confirmed.
The latest escalation has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, with oil markets closely watching developments around the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world's oil supply normally passes. Shipping disruptions and military activity have already pushed energy prices higher.
