WASHINGTON Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with a fresh peace proposal from Iran, signaling continued uncertainty in efforts to end the ongoing conflict that has destabilized global energy markets.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump confirmed that the latest offer—reportedly delivered through Pakistan—includes terms the United States cannot accept. He emphasized that while a negotiated settlement remains preferable, military escalation remains on the table if diplomacy fails.
“We want a deal, but not at any cost,” Trump indicated, adding that certain demands in the proposal cross unacceptable lines.
Talks Remain Deadlocked
Efforts to broker peace have struggled to gain traction in recent weeks. High-level discussions held in Islamabad earlier this month failed to produce a roadmap for future negotiations despite extended sessions.
A fragile ceasefire, in place since early April, has temporarily halted hostilities that erupted in late February. However, the absence of a political breakthrough continues to raise concerns about a potential return to conflict.
Global Stakes Rise
The international community is closely monitoring developments, particularly due to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical route for nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.
Diplomatic sources suggest Tehran has submitted a revised proposal through mediators, but significant gaps remain between both sides.
With tensions still high, the path toward a lasting resolution appears uncertain, leaving global markets and regional stability hanging in the balance.
