Caracas: Direct commercial flights between the United States and Venezuela have resumed after a seven-year suspension, marking a significant development in US–Venezuela relations and restoring a key international air route.

The first flight, operated by Envoy Air on behalf of American Airlines, departed Miami on Thursday and arrived in Caracas after approximately three hours, re-establishing direct connectivity between the two countries.

Air services had been suspended in 2019 due to security concerns and a breakdown in diplomatic ties. Since then, passengers traveling between the US and Venezuela relied on indirect routes through regional hubs such as Bogotá and Panama City.

The resumption of direct flights is being viewed as a step toward improved bilateral relations, with officials highlighting potential benefits for travel, trade, and economic activity. Additional services are expected to be introduced in the coming weeks, further strengthening US–Caracas flight connectivity.

Despite the development, high ticket prices and strict visa requirements continue to present challenges for travelers, potentially limiting immediate demand on the route.

American Airlines had been the last US carrier operating in Venezuela before suspending operations in 2019. Its return is considered an important milestone in restoring international air travel links and reconnecting communities across both countries.
