A South Korean fighter pilot has been fined after causing a mid-air collision during an unauthorized attempt to capture aerial photos, according to an official investigation.
The incident occurred during a high-speed flight when the pilot reportedly tried to document his final sortie before reassignment. In doing so, he coordinated with another aircraft to take photos while flying in close proximity.
Authorities stated that the pilot performed a risky maneuver to achieve a better angle, bringing his aircraft dangerously close to another jet. The miscalculation resulted in contact between the two aircraft, causing significant damage.
Although no injuries were reported, the incident led to costly repairs, prompting disciplinary action against the pilot.
Following an internal review, officials initially held the pilot responsible for the full extent of the damages. However, after an appeal, his liability was reduced, taking into account his service record and the fact that the aircraft was safely returned without further incident.
The case has raised concerns over in-flight safety protocols and the risks associated with unauthorized actions during military operations.
