ISLAMABAD: In a critical diplomatic moment, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held high-level meetings with Pakistan’s civil and military leadership during a brief but significant stop in Islamabad, as efforts continue to revive U.S.–Iran peace talks.

According to sources, Araghchi met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with other senior officials, as Pakistan intensifies its role in keeping fragile negotiations on track—despite former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel the planned visit of his envoys.

⚠️ Short Visit, High Stakes

The Iranian foreign minister’s visit came shortly after his trip to Oman, where he engaged in discussions focused on regional security and diplomatic pathways to de-escalate tensions.

Following meetings in Islamabad, Araghchi departed for Moscow, continuing a fast-moving diplomatic tour aimed at shaping the next phase of negotiations.

🤝 Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Peace

After the visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that security measures around Islamabad’s Red Zone had been lifted, thanking citizens for their cooperation.

“The support of the people enabled us to ensure the safety of our guests and continue our efforts for regional peace,” Dar said.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and maintaining stability in the region.

🌍 Behind-the-Scenes Diplomacy Intensifies

Araghchi’s meetings come at a time of uncertainty, with Washington stepping back from direct engagement.

Trump recently confirmed he had cancelled sending envoys to Pakistan, stating there was no benefit in continuing talks without progress. However, he also revealed that Iran quickly revised its proposal following the decision.

“They gave us a paper… and within minutes, we got a better one,” Trump said.

⚡ ‘Very Fruitful’ — But Doubts Remain

Despite describing his Pakistan visit as “very fruitful,” Araghchi signaled caution regarding U.S. intentions.

“We have yet to see if the United States is truly serious about diplomacy,” he noted.
