(SCN LAHORE ) – The Punjab government has decided not to move forward with a proposal to reduce market operating hours, following initial consultations with stakeholders.
According to official sources, recommendations regarding early market closures were presented to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz but have not been approved at this stage.
Markets across the province will continue to operate under existing timings, remaining open until 10 PM.
Authorities indicated that the proposal has been temporarily deferred, with further discussions planned before any final decision is taken. Representatives from traders’ associations and the business community are being engaged as part of the consultation process.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah confirmed that similar discussions are ongoing in Sindh. Traders have expressed concerns over proposals to close markets earlier, and consultations are continuing.
Officials stated that once the dialogue process is complete, a coordinated position may be shared with the federal government.
