ISLAMABAD: Amid Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran, Gohar Ali Khan has called for a “domestic ceasefire” within the country.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman praised the government’s efforts in facilitating peace talks between global powers but questioned the lack of internal political harmony.

“What kind of peace is it to broker globally while conflict continues at home?” he asked while speaking to media in Islamabad.

Highlighting the importance of internal unity, Gohar stressed that “internal stability is essential for global stability.”

Pakistan recently hosted high-level delegations from Washington and Tehran following mediation efforts led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, resulting in a temporary two-week ceasefire.

Despite extended negotiations lasting over 20 hours, both sides failed to reach a long-term agreement.

Gohar further clarified that his party is currently not engaged in formal talks with the government but expressed hope that negotiations could begin within the next six weeks.

Reaffirming PTI’s stance, he said the party supports national interests and had even cancelled its planned political rally in Rawalpindi to facilitate the diplomatic process.
