Abidjan: Pakistan’s women’s football team delivered a historic performance, defeating Turks and Caicos Islands 8-0 in their opening match of the Fifa Series at Stade Alassane Ouattara on Thursday.

The emphatic victory marks Pakistan’s biggest-ever win, surpassing their previous 7-0 triumph over Maldives in 2022, signaling a major step forward for women’s football in the country.

Pakistan dominated from the outset, with Mariam Mahmood leading the early charge, testing the opposition defense within the opening minutes.

The breakthrough came in the 10th minute when Zahmena Malik opened the scoring. Just two minutes later, Aqsa Mushtaq doubled the lead following a rebound.

Pakistan continued their attacking dominance as Layla Banaras added a third with a brilliant solo effort, before Mariam Mahmood found the net to make it 4-0 before halftime.

The second half saw no slowdown, with Nadia Khan scoring with a well-placed header to extend the lead.

Aqsa Mushtaq and Layla Banaras each grabbed their second goals, while Isra Khan sealed the historic victory with Pakistan’s eighth goal.

Pakistan maintained near-total control throughout the match, pinning their opponents in their own half and showcasing exceptional attacking coordination.

PFF President Mohsen Gilani praised the team’s performance, calling it “the start of a new era for women’s football in Pakistan.”
