Lahore: Nida Saleh becomes first female train driver on Orange Line Metro

LAHORE: Nida Saleh became the first female train driver to operate the Orange Line Metro, Lahore’s rapid transit system.

Nida Saleh recently completed comprehensive training to drive the modern metro trains that run on the Orange Line. An Assistant Manager Public Relations for the project confirmed that Nida has assumed full duties as a regular train operator.

Training for metro drivers was conducted by experienced instructors from both, Pakistan and China. The trainers ensured that drivers were qualified to operate the state-of-the-art driver-operated metro train safely and efficiently.

The Orange Line Metro first became operational in late 2020. It is the country’s first driver-operated metro rail system. It spans over 27 kilometres across Lahore, connecting key urban centres in the province’s largest city.

The rapid transit system is aimed at improving public transport and reducing commute time in the city of 14 million. The system is managed by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA).
