Audit reveals alleged corruption in Sindh Health Department

KARACHI: An audit report has exposed alleged corruption, embezzlement, scams, and irregularities in the Sindh Health Department, with losses totaling more than Rs 12 billion.

The report includes details of a significant theft involving cancer medicines worth Rs 360 million from Dr Ruth Civil Hospital.According to the findings, some employees of the hospital stole the cancer medicines in 2023. The hospital’s superintendent confirmed the theft. A staff nurse and a dispenser have been identified as suspects in the incident as well.



Despite the passing of several months since the discovery of the theft, the administration has yet to refer the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation.

The audit team has recommended a detailed inquiry into the matter. The report covers the financial accounts of both the caretaker government, which served for nine and a half months, and the current Sindh government for the past two months.
