Fawad Chaudhry, Adnan Sami slug it out over Indian citizenship

ISLAMABAD: A fresh war of words broke out on social media between singer Adnan Sami and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, as tensions rose after India’s directive asking Pakistani nationals to leave the country.

The controversy began after Fawad commented on Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent order, directing Pakistani citizens living in India to depart by April 27. Medical visa holders have been given until April 29.

Taking a dig, Fawad Chaudhry posted on X, “What about Adnan Sami?”, questioning if the singer would also be expelled. Adnan Sami, who renounced his Pakistani citizenship and became an Indian national in 2016, fired back, calling Fawad an “illiterate idiot” and reminding him of his legal status.

Fawad responded by saying, “Adnan Sami is from Lahore,” and added a jibe: “Our very own Lahori Adnan Sami aisay lag rahay hein jaisey baloon se hawa nikal chuki hooo [Our very own Adnan Sami looks like all the air has been let out of a balloon]… get well soon @AdnanSamiLive.”

Sami corrected Fawad, stating his roots were from Peshawar, not Lahore. He criticised Fawad, saying, “You were Minister of (Mis)Information and yet lack basic knowledge!”
