The unique law of the Japanese region that made it mandatory to laugh once a day

Did you know that laughing or smiling several times a day not only makes the mood pleasant but also improves health?

At least that's what scientists believe.

But can you imagine if a law is enacted in a region that bans people from laughing?

This unique law has been implemented in Yamagata prefecture of Japan.

Under this law, it is mandatory for people to laugh at least once a day to have positive effects on their physical and mental health.

According to local media, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) introduced the law, which urged local residents to make it a habit to laugh every day.

Similarly, businesses were instructed to create an atmosphere that echoes of laughter.

The 8th day of every month is specially reserved for laughter.

The law was enacted in keeping with Yamagata University research that found laughter improved health while increasing the average lifespan.

A 2020 study by this university found that people who laugh less have a significantly increased risk of heart disease or death from any cause.

The research also discovered a link between laughter and happiness in life.

According to researchers, laughter has positive effects on mental attitudes.

Interestingly, the new law was not welcomed by every constituency while it was opposed by 2 political parties.

But the spokesperson of LDP said that under this law people will not be forced to laugh but people's decision will be respected.

If a person refrains from laughing even once a day, he will not be punished for breaking the law.
