Newly elected British Prime Minister and new MPs took oath
London: Newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and new MPs took the oath of office, Keir Starmer and 650 MPs and his cabinet signed the Commons Rule.
Foreign media reports have said that British Pakistanis are among the members of parliament who took the oath, Sir Lindsay Hoyle was re-elected as the speaker of the House of Commons, the newly elected British minister Shabana Mahmood is also among those who took the oath.
Afzal Khan, Imran Hussain, Raja Yasin and Naz Shah were also sworn in. In the presence of the Speaker, all MPs took the oath one by one. MPs took the oath of allegiance to King Charles and his heirs and successors.
All Members of Parliament were sworn in one by one in the presence of the Speaker, 335 of the 650 MPs were elected for the first time, 263 in the House of Commons, almost 40 per cent women.
Earlier, the newly elected British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer discussed the current situation of tension in the region with the Israeli Prime Minister and the Palestinian President.
According to the spokesperson of the British Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Starmer discussed the situation in Gaza and Lebanon with Netanyahu and expressed concern over the situation on Israel's northern border.
The British Prime Minister also discussed the Gaza ceasefire, the release of hostages and humanitarian access to Gaza, advising all parties to proceed with caution.
British Prime Minister Starmer told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that there has been no change in Britain's long-standing policy of recognizing cooperation in the peace process.
Newly elected British Prime Minister Starmer further said that the path to peace process is the indisputable right of the Palestinians.
