Films that are 60% made outside India are allowed to be screened in the country: Federal Information Minister
Federal Minister of Information Atta Tarar has said that 60% of films made outside India are allowed to be shown in the country, efforts are being made not to affect the domestic industry.
The meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting was held under the chairmanship of Barrister Ali Zafar.
The chairman committee said that action must be taken for defaming someone, Irfan Siddiqui said that freedom of expression has to be balanced, nowadays there is a lot of lies, deception and fake news on social media.
Apart from this, while talking about films, Information Minister Atta Tarar said that the Censor Board is seen very narrowly. Films which are 60% made outside India, the houses outside India are letting them run, trying not to affect the domestic industry.
Senator Pervez Rasheed said that the film is the entertainment of the common man, the poor have been deprived of entertainment for four decades. The restrictions imposed on Pakistan should end, it is a meaningless restriction. Cinemas ended with us and VCRs came in. We nurtured the industry of other countries at the cost of our own film industry.
He said that he should be happy that people are being saved from something dirty. Show openness, let films play here. We ended Basant festival, it used to benefit crores, we ended our festivals and films and promoted violent people.
Federal Minister Atta Tarar said that the Digital Media Authority will be formed after much consultation. There is no law on child pornography, deepfake. The rules under PEMRA amendment bills have been sent to the Ministry of Law.
Senator Ali Zafar said that you have instructed the channels not to mention any person's name. Chairman Pemra replied that we have not placed any order.
Chairman Standing Committee said that Twitter has been banned, to which Atta Tarar said that this is a matter between IT and Ministry of Interior. All other platforms are running in the country. There is a problem of Twitter implementing the government request.
