'Can't compromise on Palestine', Australian senator resigns
An Australian senator resigned from the Labor Party after refusing to compromise on Palestine.
Senator Fatima Payman told a news conference on Thursday that she was resigning from Australia's governing party with a "heavy heart but a clear conscience".
He was suspended indefinitely for rebelling against the party line and pledging to support any movement for Palestinian recognition.
Fatima Peyman represents the state of Western Australia. They voted in late June to support a motion put forward by the Greens to recognize Palestine, against the wishes of the Labor Party and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
"We've all seen the bloody images of young children losing limbs, being amputated without anesthesia, and starving to death as Israel continues its attacks," he said at the news conference.
She was born in Afghanistan and arrived in Australia as an infant.
He said that my family did not come here as refugees after fleeing from a war-torn country so that I could remain silent when I saw atrocities on innocent people.
