US resolution is result of ignorance of Pakistan's electoral process: Foreign Office

Pakistan has reacted strongly to the approval of the resolution by the US House of Representatives.

The spokesperson of the Foreign Office has said on the US resolution regarding the elections that such resolutions are neither purposeful nor constructive.

According to the Foreign Office, the timing and context of the American resolution is not compatible with our bilateral relations, the resolution has an incomplete understanding of the political situation and electoral process in Pakistan.

According to the spokesperson of the Foreign Office, Pakistan is the second largest parliamentary democracy and the fifth largest democratic country in the world, Pakistan is committed to the values of constitutionalism, human rights and rule of law, and Pakistan follows the rule of law in its national interest.

It should be noted that the US Congress, refusing to recognize the recent elections in Pakistan as free and fair, has demanded a transparent investigation into the alleged rigging of the general elections in Pakistan.

The US Congress passed Resolution 7 by a majority of 368 votes to 7, calling for an independent and impartial investigation into the election, condemning the disruption of Internet and telecommunications facilities.

According to the text of the resolution, there should be an independent investigation into the allegations of interference and irregularities in the February 8 election.

The resolution condemned intimidation, imprisonment and harassment to prevent people from participating in the democratic process.
