First major upset of T20 World Cup Super 8: Afghanistan beat Australia
In the first major upset of the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs.
In the 48th match of the T20 World Cup being played in Kingstown, Australia won the toss and decided to field first against Afghanistan.
Australia's innings
The Afghan cricket team had given Australia a target of 149 runs to win while batting first, in pursuit of which the Australian team returned to the pavilion on 127 runs.
On behalf of Australia, David Warner 3, Mitchell Marsh 12 and Travis Head returned without scoring any runs, Glenn Maxwell 59, Marcus Stoins 11 and Tim David 2 runs were dismissed.
Afghanistan's Gulbadin guided 4 players to the pavilion, Naveen ul Haq took 3 wickets, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan took one wicket each.
Afghanistan's innings
Earlier, the Afghanistan team batted first and scored 148 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Afghan opener Rahmanullah Garbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave the team a great start with a partnership of 118 runs, Rahmanullah Garbaz scored 49 balls. But scored 60 runs while Ibrahim Zadran scored 51 runs off 48 balls with the help of 6 fours.
On behalf of Afghanistan, Karim Jannat was dismissed for 13 runs while Mohammad Nabi remained not out for 10 runs.
Pat Cummins of Australia took 3 consecutive wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs to take another hat-trick in this T20 World Cup, Adam Zampa 2 and Marcus Stynes also managed to get 1 wicket.
