 Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte appointed the new Secretary General of NATO


The North Atlantic Council (NAC) has decided to appoint Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as the next Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Mark Rutte will take up his duties as Secretary-General from 1 October 2024, succeeding Jens Stoltenberg, whose term of 10 years will end in September.

On the other hand, many European leaders, including European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula Vanderleen, European Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell, congratulated Mark Rutte on his election as NATO Secretary General.
