According to Al Jazeera, reports from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that general secondary exams were scheduled to begin today, but that Israel's war on Gaza continues to have a severe impact on school children, and nearly Forty thousand students are unable to appear in these exams.
The United Nations says 625,000 students in Gaza have been out of school since the war began in October, with Israeli attacks destroying scores of schools and universities, and killing more than 7,000 Palestinians. Students and 378 academic staff were killed, leaving an estimated 39,000 high school students 'lost the opportunity' to take the exam.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Education, 1,320 students from Gaza, who are outside the conflict zone, are being supported to take general secondary exams in 29 Arab countries. Most of them (about 1,090 students) are hosted by Egypt, with the Palestinian Ministry of Education setting up the largest exam hall in Egypt. Special testing facilities have also been established in Russia, Turkey and Qatar.
