Maryam Nawaz elected first woman Chief Minister of Punjab

The nominated candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz, was elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Sunni Alliance Council boycotted the Punjab Assembly meeting.



A meeting of the Punjab Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan in which voting was held for the election of the Chief Minister. Maryam Nawaz was the candidate from PML-N while Rana Aftab was from Sunni Ittehad Council.

During the meeting, members of the Sunni Ittehad Council walked out of the provincial assembly, after which sloganeering started. Later, various members of the Sunni Unity Council were sent to celebrate.


On this occasion, nominated Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz said that the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council should not be boycotted. Win or lose, compete, that's the beauty of democracy.


Meanwhile, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan ordered all the members to come inside the assembly. He said that if the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council do not agree, the action should be taken forward.

Speaker Punjab said that the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council are speaking against the constitution. Under Article 130 of the Constitution, members of the Sunni Unity Council are not allowed to speak. If the opposition does not come, call back the members of the PML-G and other parties.


Voting for the election of the Punjab Chief Minister began without the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council. Maryam Nawaz, the nominated candidate of PML-N won by getting 220 votes while the opposite candidate Rana Aftab could not get any votes.
