General Election 2024: Voting Procedure and Essential Instructions
While the general elections of 2024 across Pakistan are now a few hours away instead of days, the Election Commission has issued necessary instructions and procedures for voting for the convenience of the voters.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), original identity card is required to vote. Copy or soft copy of ID card will not be acceptable while voting can be done on expired ID card.
As per ECP guidelines, passport, bay form or driving license will not be acceptable for voting. After entering the polling station, the voter has to give his original identity card to the presiding officer.
After handing over the identity card to the polling officer, the right thumb of the voter will be marked with an indelible light. The presiding officer will affix the thumb impression in front of the voter's photograph and strike the voter's name from the voter list.
In the next phase, the ballot papers for the National and Provincial Assemblies will be given by the Assistant Presiding Officers. Green ballot paper will be given for National Assembly and white ballot paper for Provincial Assembly.
After that, the voters will stamp the candidate's name or electoral symbol on the ballot papers of the provincial and national assembly behind the voting screen.
In the last step, the voter has to fold the ballot paper and put it in the ballot box. Before folding the ballot paper, it is important to ensure that the stamp ink is dry.
