Trump Declares Iran Ceasefire ‘Over’ Again but Says US Agrees to Fresh Talks

By Saqib S. Qureshi

President Donald Trump has declared that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is effectively over, while also confirming Washington has agreed to continue diplomatic talks with Tehran after Iran requested further negotiations. The seemingly contradictory announcement underscores the fragile state of the crisis following renewed military exchanges in the Gulf.

Speaking as tensions continue to rise, Trump said he considers the ceasefire finished but added that U.S. negotiators would proceed with discussions after Iran sought to keep diplomatic channels open. The remarks came after renewed attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz triggered another round of U.S. military strikes against Iranian targets.

The latest escalation follows Iranian attacks on commercial shipping and subsequent U.S. retaliation, which has heightened concerns about the security of one of the world's most important oil transit routes. Energy markets remain on edge despite continued diplomatic contacts between the two countries.

Regional mediators, including Qatar, are continuing efforts to reduce tensions and encourage both sides to return to substantive negotiations. However, Trump's latest comments suggest Washington no longer considers the previous ceasefire arrangement to be in force, even as talks remain alive.

Analysts say the parallel tracks of military action and diplomacy reflect an increasingly volatile situation in which neither side appears willing to abandon negotiations entirely, despite ongoing hostilities.
