Judge Orders E. Jean Carroll Be Paid $5.8M in Trump Sex Abuse and Defamation Case

By SCN NEWS DESK

A federal judge in New York has ordered that E. Jean Carroll can collect nearly $5.8 million from President Donald Trump, after a jury found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming the writer.

The money had been held in escrow while Trump appealed the 2023 verdict. The original jury award was $5 million, but the total has grown to about $5.8 million with interest.

The case stems from Carroll’s allegation that Trump sexually abused her in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s and later defamed her when he denied the claim and attacked her credibility. Trump has continued to deny the allegations and says the case is politically motivated.

Trump’s lawyers immediately appealed the judge’s order and asked a court to block the payment while they continue legal efforts. The Supreme Court had already declined to hear Trump’s appeal, but his legal team is still trying to delay the release of the funds.

Carroll also won a separate $83.3 million defamation verdict against Trump in 2024, which Trump is also appealing.
