US Supreme Court Issues New Opinions as Major Trump, Voting and Transgender Cases Await Decisions

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court of the United States released another batch of opinions Thursday as it enters the final days of its current term, with several of the year's most closely watched constitutional cases still awaiting decisions.

Among the outstanding cases are disputes that could significantly affect the scope of presidential authority. The justices are considering legal challenges related to President Donald Trump's executive order seeking to end automatic birthright citizenship, as well as his efforts to remove leaders of independent federal agencies and Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve.

The court is also expected to rule on a closely watched case involving state laws that prohibit transgender students from participating on girls' sports teams. The dispute has become a major legal and political flashpoint as several conservative-led states defend such restrictions while civil rights advocates challenge them in court.

Another pending case could shape future elections by determining whether states may count mail ballots that arrive after Election Day if they were postmarked on or before Election Day. The outcome could influence how absentee ballots are handled in future federal elections.

The Supreme Court traditionally issues its most significant opinions during the final weeks of its annual term, with additional opinion days expected before the justices begin their summer recess.
