LeBron James Leaves Lakers, Enters Free Agency for Record 24th NBA Season
NBA superstar LeBron James is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, bringing an end to his eight-season tenure with the franchise as he enters free agency ahead of what will be a record 24th NBA season.
According to reports, James informed the Lakers that he intends to play elsewhere next season. His agent, Rich Paul, said the 41-year-old remains focused on competing for another NBA championship rather than retiring.
James joined the Lakers in 2018 and led the franchise to the 2020 NBA championship. During his time in Los Angeles, he became the NBA's all-time leading scorer while adding more All-Star appearances and All-NBA honors to his legendary résumé.
The Lakers thanked James for his contributions, calling him one of the greatest players in basketball history and expressing appreciation for his role in delivering the franchise's 2020 title.
While James has not announced his next destination, several contenders—including the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs—have already emerged as potential landing spots in what is expected to become the biggest storyline of the NBA offseason.
