Lebanon and Israel Hold Fifth Round of US-Mediated Talks in Washington Amid Fragile Ceasefire
WASHINGTON — Lebanese and Israeli delegations have arrived in Washington for a new round of US-mediated negotiations as efforts continue to preserve the fragile ceasefire that ended months of hostilities in Lebanon.
According to Lebanon's National News Agency, the Lebanese delegation is led by Ambassador Nada Mouawad, while the Israeli team is headed by Ambassador Yehiel Leiter. Senior US officials are also participating in the discussions.
The meeting marks the fifth round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel and comes at a sensitive moment for regional diplomacy following the recent US-Iran ceasefire arrangement announced on June 19.
Diplomatic sources say the talks are focused on maintaining stability along the Lebanon-Israel frontier, preventing accidental escalation, and strengthening mechanisms designed to reduce the risk of renewed military confrontation.
A key development following the US-Iran ceasefire has been the establishment of a “Lebanon de-confliction cell,” a coordination mechanism intended to support the cessation of military operations and improve communication between parties during periods of heightened tension.
While major political disputes between Lebanon and Israel remain unresolved, diplomats view the continuation of talks as an important step toward preventing a return to large-scale fighting.
The negotiations are being closely watched across the Middle East, where officials hope recent diplomatic momentum can help stabilize multiple regional flashpoints after months of conflict and uncertainty.
