FAA Investigates After Passenger Tries to Open Cabin Door, Forcing Regional Jet Emergency Landing
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a serious in-flight security incident after a passenger allegedly attempted to open a cabin door aboard a regional jet, forcing the flight crew to make an emergency landing.
According to officials, the disturbance occurred while the aircraft was at cruising altitude. Crew members, assisted by passengers, quickly intervened to restrain the individual before the situation escalated further. The captain declared an emergency and diverted the aircraft to the nearest suitable airport, where it landed safely.
No injuries were immediately reported among passengers or crew. Law enforcement officers boarded the aircraft upon arrival and took the passenger into custody.
The FAA confirmed it has opened an investigation into the incident. Authorities are reviewing the events that led to the attempted cabin door breach and will determine whether criminal charges or civil penalties are appropriate.
Under U.S. aviation regulations, attempting to interfere with a flight crew or compromise aircraft safety can result in significant fines and criminal prosecution.
