Danish football star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark's international friendly against Ukraine, forcing the match to be abandoned and triggering scenes of shock among players and fans. Officials later confirmed Eriksen was conscious and receiving medical care.
Television footage showed the 34-year-old midfielder clutching his chest before falling to the ground during the second half. Medical teams rushed onto the field while teammates from both sides formed a protective circle around him as treatment was provided. Eriksen was later able to leave the field and was transported for further medical evaluation.
The incident brought back painful memories of Euro 2020, when Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's match against Finland. He was later fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a heart-starting device that helped him resume both his club and international career. Danish team doctors said the device appeared to function as intended during Sunday's emergency.
Denmark's Football Association said Eriksen was conscious and doing well under the circumstances. Further tests are expected to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
