NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: A United Airlines passenger aircraft made contact with a light pole while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, prompting a federal investigation.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the incident involved Flight 169, a Boeing 767 arriving from Venice, Italy. The aircraft landed safely despite the impact during its final approach.

Officials confirmed that the aircraft struck a pole near the New Jersey Turnpike, and a delivery truck traveling nearby was also damaged. The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.

Airport authorities reported limited damage to the aircraft, and runway operations resumed shortly after inspections were completed.

United Airlines said its maintenance team is assessing the aircraft, while the flight crew has been temporarily removed from duty pending a detailed safety review.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation and requested flight data and cockpit recordings. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
