(Washington) US President Donald Trump says negotiators are “getting a lot closer” to reaching an agreement with Iran that could potentially end months of conflict and prevent further military escalation in the Middle East.

Speaking during multiple media interviews on Saturday, Trump said discussions between Washington and Tehran had made significant progress, while warning that military action could resume if negotiations fail.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed that talks were advancing, saying there is “a chance” officials could announce developments “as soon as today.”

According to reports, Pakistan continues to play a key mediating role between the United States and Iran, with senior Pakistani officials involved in efforts to finalize a framework agreement aimed at ending the war and stabilizing the region.

Sources familiar with the negotiations say the proposed agreement could include:

  • Maintaining the current ceasefire
  • Preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons
  • Discussions over sanctions relief
  • Reopening regional shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz
  • A longer-term diplomatic framework between both sides

Iran’s Foreign Ministry acknowledged progress in negotiations, saying there has been “a reduction in disputes,” although officials stressed that key issues still need to be resolved before any final agreement is signed.

Trump reportedly plans to review the latest draft proposal with advisers before deciding whether diplomatic efforts will continue or military operations could resume.

The conflict has triggered major concerns globally due to threats around oil supplies, regional security, and fears of a wider Middle East war.
