INDIANA: President Donald Trump scored major political victories in the Indiana GOP primary elections Tuesday as three longtime Republican senators lost to Trump-backed challengers in a dramatic political showdown that could shape the future of the Republican Party ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections.

The heated Indiana Republican primary races gained national attention after several GOP lawmakers opposed a Trump-supported congressional redistricting plan aimed at increasing Republican control in the U.S. House.

Among the biggest upsets was the defeat of veteran Indiana Senator Travis Holdman, who lost to Trump-endorsed candidate Blake Fiechter in one of the most closely watched Republican primary election results of the night.

Long-serving Republican lawmaker Jim Buck was also defeated by Tracey Powell despite support from former Vice President Mike Pence.

Another major race saw Greg Walker lose to Trump-backed state Representative Michelle Davis after outside political organizations spent more than $1.3 million supporting Davis’ campaign during the high-profile Indiana Senate election battle.

Walker had become a central figure in the ongoing Republican redistricting controversy after emotionally warning fellow lawmakers about divisions within the GOP during debates over the congressional map backed by Trump.

However, not all Trump-endorsed candidates secured victories.

Indiana Senator Greg Goode survived his primary challenge by defeating Trump-backed candidate Brenda Wilson and challenger Alexandra Wilson.

Reports suggested Trump allies privately tried persuading Alexandra Wilson to withdraw from the race to avoid splitting anti-Goode votes during the competitive Indiana Republican Senate primary.

The normally quiet state legislative races transformed into one of the most expensive political battles in Indiana history, with nearly $12 million in campaign advertising reportedly spent across seven Republican Senate contests involving Trump-backed candidates.

In a Truth Social message before the election, Trump criticized the targeted lawmakers and referred to them as “RINOs,” urging Republican voters to support candidates loyal to his political agenda.

Political analysts believe the results highlight Trump’s continued dominance inside the Republican Party and could influence future GOP strategies heading into the crucial 2026 congressional elections.
