Pakistani officials say they are “very upbeat” following high-level negotiations between Pakistan and Iran in Tehran, amid growing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions surrounding the ongoing Middle East conflict.

According to Pakistan’s military, the talks were “extensive and productive” after Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, travelled to Tehran on Friday for 24 hours of intensive discussions with senior Iranian leadership.

During the visit, General Munir held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other top Iranian officials as diplomatic efforts accelerated behind the scenes.

Officials in Islamabad now believe several major disputes and “irritants” between the sides may have been reduced through negotiations.

Sources familiar with the discussions say Iran has signalled flexibility on several critical issues, including possible measures involving its enriched uranium programme and limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, although these reports have not been officially confirmed.

Iran is also reportedly seeking guarantees from the United States regarding the lifting of blockades and sanctions as part of any broader diplomatic framework.

The coming days are expected to be crucial as attention now shifts toward Washington and whether the United States responds positively to the latest diplomatic outreach.

There is growing speculation that another round of negotiations could potentially take place in Islamabad if momentum continues and new proposals emerge from both Washington and Tehran.

The ongoing diplomacy comes amid global concerns over regional stability, oil supplies, and fears of wider escalation in the Middle East.
