The Middle East conflict escalated further after Iran warned it would retaliate against the United States following fresh American military strikes targeting missile launch sites and suspected mine-laying boats in southern Iran.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation was carried out as a “self-defense” action to protect American troops and military assets operating near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. US officials said the strikes targeted Iranian positions believed to pose an immediate threat to regional security and maritime traffic.

Iranian officials strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of the fragile ceasefire efforts currently under discussion between Washington and Tehran. Iranian authorities warned that the country reserves the right to respond to what it described as “aggression” against its territory.

Explosions were reported near Bandar Abbas and other strategic coastal areas in southern Iran following the strikes. Reports also indicated that US forces targeted vessels allegedly attempting to deploy naval mines near the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway responsible for a significant share of global energy shipments.

The latest confrontation comes despite ongoing diplomatic efforts in Qatar aimed at reducing tensions and reopening commercial shipping lanes in the Gulf region. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said negotiations are continuing, though Washington remains prepared to respond militarily if American forces are threatened.

Global energy markets reacted quickly to the growing instability, with oil prices showing renewed volatility amid fears of broader regional escalation and possible disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts warn that any sustained military escalation between the United States and Iran could further destabilize the region, impact global oil supplies, and increase security concerns across the Middle East.
