The United Nations has welcomed the recent decision by the United States to extend the ceasefire with Iran, describing it as a positive step toward reducing tensions in the region.
According to a statement delivered by UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres believes the development could open the door for meaningful diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.
The UN emphasized that the extension provides an opportunity for confidence-building and renewed negotiations aimed at achieving long-term stability.
Officials have urged all parties involved to avoid actions that could jeopardize the ceasefire and instead focus on constructive dialogue to reach a sustainable resolution.
The United Nations also expressed strong support for Pakistan’s ongoing role in facilitating talks between the two sides, noting that such efforts could help create conditions necessary for a lasting peace agreement.
The statement underscores growing international hopes that continued diplomacy may prevent further escalation in an already volatile region.
