In an unprecedented move, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will hold its session outside the assembly premises for the first time, with proceedings scheduled at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium on April 22.

Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati announced the decision, saying the open-air session aims to bring lawmakers closer to the public and enhance transparency in the democratic process.

According to the official notification issued by the assembly secretariat, the session will be presided over by Speaker Swati, with full arrangements being finalised in coordination with the sports department, police and district administration.

Swati said the initiative is designed to allow citizens to directly observe the performance of their elected representatives and increase public participation. He also indicated that similar sessions could be held in other districts in the future.

Senior officials, including Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi and Assembly Secretary Syed Waqar Shah, have already visited the stadium to review preparations.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah welcomed the move, saying it would give the opposition a platform to question government performance directly before the public, though he noted concerns about the government’s intent.
