Iran has said that no date has been fixed for the next round of talks with the United States, stressing that a clear framework of understanding must be agreed upon before any further negotiations.

Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that while “significant progress” had been made during recent high-level discussions in Islamabad, disagreements over key issues — particularly Iran’s nuclear programme — prevented a final agreement.

“We will not enter negotiations that are doomed to fail,” he said, adding that Iran would not accept any terms that place it outside international law.

Khatibzadeh warned that failure by the US to honour commitments could lead to “repercussions,” highlighting ongoing mistrust between the two sides.

Despite US President Donald Trump suggesting that new talks could take place soon, diplomats indicated that logistical challenges make immediate negotiations unlikely.

🛢 Hormuz tensions and ceasefire concerns

Iran reaffirmed that it had allowed safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz under the terms of a recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

However, Khatibzadeh accused Washington of attempting to undermine the agreement, saying US statements had created confusion around the status of the waterway.

🌍 Global mediation efforts intensify

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are continuing, with Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey actively working to broker a final agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Egypt’s foreign minister said global pressure is mounting to end the conflict, warning that the ongoing crisis is affecting not just the region but the entire world.

Iran criticises US messaging

Khatibzadeh also criticised Washington’s communication, calling US statements “inconsistent and sometimes contradictory,” in an apparent reference to President Trump’s frequent social media posts.

He reaffirmed that Iran would resist external pressure and defend its position under international law.
