Sardaar Ji 3 to be screened in Pakistan from today
LAHORE: Indian Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 has been cleared by Pakistan’s Central Board of Film Censors for public screening across the country.
The movie, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in a leading role alongside Indian stars Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa, will hit cinemas nationwide from today (June 27).
The film was embroiled in controversy as it featured Hania Aamir in one of the main characters. After the three day stand-off between India and Pakistan, India banned Pakistani artists. Hania Aamir’s inclusion in the film was also under question.
Despite being banned in India, reportedly due to the inclusion of Pakistani artists, the film has generated buzz on both sides of the border.
The censor board, in its official notification, stated that Sardaar Ji 3 has been “passed for unrestricted public exhibition within the territories of Pakistan” under the Motion Pictures Ordinance of 1979.The cast also includes renowned Pakistani comedian Nasir Chinyoti and several popular Punjabi actors. Hania Aamir, who enjoys a massive fan following in Pakistan, plays a prominent role in the film.
Her fans have taken to social media to share their excitement. One fan wrote, “Hania Aamir alone is enough for Indians,” while another commented, “Pakistan deprived India of this movie.”
However, a large number of Pakistanis are unhappy about the release. One said, “This guy (Diljit Dosanjh) hates Pakistanis and Muslims, but for money he can do anything, this is what Hania did. She should be ashamed of doing it. She’s not happy working for her own country? Why need clutches to climb up??? She would have worked for Hollywood, nobody would have had any problem but with India… never ever.”
Another wrote, “Ban Indian films!! Boycott”. A fan said, “Why are we screening Indian films in Pakistan?”.
