Israel attack on Iran ‘excellent,’ more to come: Trump

By Shahnoor Saqib

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Friday said the Israeli attack on Iran has been “excellent” and warned there was much more to come, according to an interview with ABC News.

“I think it’s been excellent. We gave them a chance and they didn’t take it. They got hit hard, very hard. They got hit about as hard as you’re going to get hit. And there’s more to come. A lot more,” Trump was quoted as saying by an ABC reporter on X.

Separately, Trump called on Iran to strike a deal over its nuclear programme, warning that there was still time to avoid further conflict with Israel.

ISRAEL’S RIGHT TO PROTECT ITSELF’

On the other hand, French President Emmanuel Macron said France had repeatedly condemned the Iran nuclear programme and reaffirmed Israel’s right to protect itself, after Israel launched attacks on Iran and Tehran vowed to retaliate.

Writing in a post on social media platform X, Macron said he had spoken with several world leaders, including Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, and US President Donald Trump.

He did not say if he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

GERMANY WAS INFORMED

Separately, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a statement said that Netanyahu informed him about Israel’s attack on Iran in a phone call on Friday mornings.

Israel has a right to defend itself and Iran should not develop nuclear weapons, the statement said, but Merz called on both sides to refrain from escalation.

Merz said Germany was coordinating closely with partners, particularly the United States, Britain and France.
