PM seeks action plan to increase trade with Azerbaijan to $2bn
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on his recent visit to Azerbaijan, emphasizing the swift implementation of signed MoUs and agreements to enhance bilateral trade.
During the meeting, the prime minister formed a committee under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to oversee the preparation of agreements, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He directed the committee to present a comprehensive action plan aimed at increasing bilateral trade to $2 billion.
Highlighting the vast potential for trade and investment between Pakistan and Central Asian states, Shehbaz Sharif assured that steps are being taken on a priority basis to maximize economic cooperation. He also instructed officials to finalize all necessary preparations ahead of Azerbaijani president's visit to Pakistan next month.
The meeting included key government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Investment Board, Communications and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, Ahad Cheema, and Jam Kamal. Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and Dr Musadik Malik were also present.
Officials briefed the PM on the Joint Business Forum held in Baku, where 83 Pakistani and 101 Azerbaijani companies participated. During the visit, 13 MoUs and agreements were signed to strengthen trade and economic ties between the two nations.
