The Kenyan High Court declared the killing of Arshad Sharif as unconstitutional and illegal
The Kenyan High Court declared the killing of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif unconstitutional and illegal.
The High Court of Kenya, while giving its verdict on Arshad Sharif's murder case, termed the killing as unconstitutional and illegal.
The court has ordered the family of Arshad Sharif to pay 2 crore 17 lakh Pakistani rupees as damages.
The court said that the killing of Arshad Sharif was not the result of a 'misidentification'.
Kenyon High Court has ordered criminal action against the police officers and personnel who fired.
The court said in its decision that the government institutions named in the petition cannot escape from their responsibility.
On the other hand, Arshad Sharif's widow said in her reaction to the Kenyan court's decision that Arshad Sharif got justice in Kenya, but he is yet to get justice in Pakistan.
It should be noted that on October 23, 2022, Arshad Sharif was shot in the head by the police on the Magadi highway in Nairobi, Kenya.
Later, the incident was declared a case of mistaken identity by the Kenyan police, but in the investigation of Arshad Sharif's murder case, a contradiction was found in the position of the Kenyan police.
The initial position of the police in the case was that they were there to recover the kidnapped child, while local investigators said that the way the bullets hit the vehicle did not seem to have been fired from a moving vehicle.
On the other hand, according to Khurram, who was driving Arshad Sharif's car at the time of the incident, he had taken the car to the village of Tapasi at a distance of half an hour from the incident site.
