T20 World Cup: South Africa's semi-final entry, Kali Andhi out of the event
South Africa defeated West Indies in the crucial match of the Super 8 stage of the ICCT20 World Cup 2024 and qualified for the semi-finals.
South Africa have reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time in 10 years.
The match was stopped due to rain, after which South Africa's target was reduced from 136 to 123 under the Duckworth-Lewis method in 17 overs, South Africa defeated the West Indies by 3 wickets.
This match was a knockout match as the winning team was supposed to qualify for the semi-finals and the losing team was supposed to end their journey in the World Cup, but now the West Indies team is out of the event.
South Africa's batting
Chasing the target, South Africa started their innings when after 2 overs it rained and the play had to be stopped for some time due to which South Africa got a target of 123 runs to win in 17 overs.
South Africa's Tristan Stubbs scored 29, Henrik Klaasen scored 22, captain Eden Markram scored 18 and Quinton de Kock scored 12 while Marco Johnson scored an unbeaten 21.
For West Eddies, Ruston Chase took 3 wickets, Andre Russell and Alzari Joseph took 2 wickets each.
Earlier in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage match played at the Sir Vion Richard Cricket Stadium, South Africa won the toss and decided to field against the host West Indies.
West Indies innings
At the invitation of South Africa, West Indies made a disappointing start to the batting, with a total score of 5, 2 players of the host team returned to the pavilion, Shay Hope zero while Nicholas Pooran scored only one run.
Third-place finisher Ruston Chase put on a partnership of 81 runs with Kyle Meyers to take the team to 86 runs after opening batsman Kyle Meyers was caught at the crease with 35 runs.
None of the West Indies batsmen could stay at the crease for long to support Ruston Chase and one after another got out and returned to the pavilion, Andy Russell scored 15 runs, Aqeel Hussain scored 6 runs.
Similarly, Alzari Joseph remained not out with 11 runs and Gadkesh Moti with 4 runs, so the host team could only score 134 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
On behalf of South Africa, leg-spinner Tabrez Shamsi bowled brilliantly and sent 3 players to the pavilion for 27 runs in 4 overs.
